Friends of Shades Creek is a nonprofit organization of local citizens working for the protection of, and responsible development along, beautiful Shades Creek in Alabama. An all volunteer organization, Friends of Shades Creek is led by a board of directors and an executive director. We hold monthly educational meetings on the second Thursday of the month at Homewood Public Library on Oxmoor Road. We are proud to host regular hikes at the Homewood Forest Preserve, an annual creek clean-up in the fall, several canoe trips during the year, and the Salamander Festival in the winter. We are supported by memberships and donations.

A restoration and stabilization project on the banks of Shades Creek has been finished. This project is near the Samford soccer fields and along the Shades Creek Greenway Trail. Professor Greg Jennings from North Carolina, a river restoration expert was the consultant on the project. We are very excited about the project and how it will help to stabilize the banks of Shades Creek.
